Report: Race 2 Quotes, Silverstone 2008

Quotes

Thomas Mutsch – No.20 Matech GT Racing Ford GT, 1st: “I was on pole and made a good start, so I had a fairly quiet stint. I wasn’t happy when the safety car came out at the beginning of the race, because it meant I had less time to build a lead. But it only stayed out for two laps, so I was able to get a few seconds clear before I brought the car in for Ian.”

Ian Khan – No.20 Matech GT Racing Ford GT, 1st: “After I was in the car, it wouldn’t restart – I had to turn the car off completely, then switch it back on, and it restarted. It only cost us a few seconds, but it dropped us out of the lead; actually, it’s all Thomas’ fault for not giving me a big enough lead! Last year, Vannelet and Moser won the two races here, and went on to take the title – I’m hoping that will be a good omen for us. We didn’t set the fastest lap yesterday, and there have been lots of different cars finishing in the points, so I hope the Performance Bureau doesn’t feel they need to take action against the Ford GT.”

James Ruffier – No.1 Martini Callaway Racing Corvette Z.06R GT3, 2nd: “I got involved in a five-car battle for second. I’d rather have had Thomas’ race at the front! It was difficult – the car wasn’t in perfect shape after the first corner. It’s a brand new car, so all weekend we’ve been finding things to try, and we’re making it better and better. We’re happy with the points we’ve scored this weekend.”

Arnaud Peyroles – No.1 Martini Callaway Racing Corvette Z.06R GT3, 2nd: “I had a good race fighting through to second – but winning would have been better! Unfortunately it wasn’t possible. At the end of the race, Ian Khan thanked me for having such a clean race, but I want to tell him that I did nothing to help him to overtake me! It was an exciting fight, it was great being able to drive like that. I have to thank James, because he gave me an ideal situation.”

David Loix – No.36 Prospeed Competition Porsche 997 GT3 Cup S, 3rd: “Two races, two podiums – but this is far from an easy series. We’re very surprised to be competitive straight away, especially as the car was ready quite late and we haven’t been able to do much testing. Having started nineteenth, getting on the podium is an excellent result.”

Mikael Forsten – No.36 Prospeed Competition Porsche 997 GT3 Cup S, 3rd: “During my stint, I didn’t actually know where I was in the race; our pit box was just before Copse corner, and the one time I tried to look at my pit board, I almost missed the corner! I felt that I could gain some places, and I could see cars ahead of me, so I kept going flat out. We’re really pleased – going from nineteenth to third is a tremendous result. I finished seventh in GT2 in the FIA GT race before this one, but I feel fine – I could do another race, if I needed to!”

Plamen Kralev – No.3 Kessel Racing Ferrari F430 GT3, 29th: “This has been a very difficult weekend for me, because it was my first race weekend in the FIA GT3 European Championship – so I don’t know any of the competitors. Traffic out on the circuit was very busy – there were a lot of crashes, and at times it was dangerous. I’m happy that we finished the race, but I know that I need to improve.”
